CAFU’s vision is an “AIDS free and productive generation”
The purpose of CAFU was to provide in-country oversight and implementation of the Track 1.0 U.S. government grants under the then newly unveiled President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
Working under a Sub-grantee arrangement together with Catholic Relief Services, Futures Group and the University of Maryland School of Medicine-Institute of Human Virology, CAFU managed 4 of the 18 AIDS Relief sites between 2004 – 2012.
From inception CAF Washington’s vision was to establish a local office, develop it into and independent local organization staffed and managed by Ugandans. CAFU was registered as an NGO in 2005 and in 2010, a local independent Board of Directors comprised of 74% Ugandan citizens was established and today CAFU is operational as a local NGO fulfilling CAF Washington’s vision for Children’s AIDS Fund Uganda (CAFU).
